Description
A defibrillator AED is a portable, battery-powered medical device used to treat Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
It checks the heart’s rhythm and delivers an electric shock if needed to restart a normal heartbeat.
The “Automated” part means it tells you what to do with voice + picture prompts, so even non-medical people can use it.
Main Functions
1. Analyzes Heart Rhythm
It uses pads placed on the chest to check if the heart is in a shockable rhythm like ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia.
2. Delivers Electric Shock
If the heart is in a dangerous rhythm, it delivers a controlled electric shock to “reset” the heart so it can beat normally again.
3. Guides the Rescuer
Gives clear voice and visual instructions: “Place pads here”, “Stand clear”, “Press shock button”, “Start CPR”.
4. Monitors During CPR
Some models give CPR feedback like “push harder” or “good compressions” to help keep blood flowing.
5. Records Data
Saves the ECG and events of the rescue. This helps doctors review what happened later.
