Autoclave tape is used to secure packs and visually confirm that instruments have been through a sterilization cycle.
Description
Autoclave tape steriliztion is a heat-sensitive adhesive tape with chemical indicators used in sterilization.
Main Medical Uses
1. Sterilization Indicator
The stripes or words on the tape change color when exposed to steam, heat, and pressure. This shows the pack has gone through an autoclave cycle.
2. Bundle & Seal Packs
Used to hold surgical packs, instrument trays, and linen bundles closed during autoclaving.
3. Load Tracking
Helps identify which instruments have been sterilized vs. unsterilized to prevent mix-ups.
4. Infection Control
Provides a visual confirmation that items are processed and safe for patient use.
5. OR & CSSD Use
Standard in Central Sterile Supply Department, OT, dental clinics, and labs for all wrapped items.
Important:
Color change = “processed”. It does NOT prove sterility. Biological indicators are still needed for full validation.
